Se nota que Gran Hermano atrae a un público bastante amplio y numeroso: más de 22.000 personas han llamado al teléfono habilitado por Telecinco y Zeppelin TV desde el pasado 7 de junio, manifestando su interés en la nueva edición del concurso; aunque sólo 16.013 aspirantes han recibido una clave de acceso a la web del programa.El equipo de casting del programa ha recorrido gran parte de la geografía nacional -Madrid (actualmente en proceso), Aragón, Galicia, Asturias, Extremadura, País Vasco, Cataluña, Valencia, Murcia, Andalucía, Baleares y Canarias- para efectuar diversas pruebas a cerca de 5.000 candidatos preseleccionados. Al igual que en ediciones anteriores, el psicólogo Enrique García Huete, acompañado por varios especialistas en la materia, se ha encargado de la elaboración de los perfiles psicológicos de los aspirantes.

Una vez cerradas las líneas telefónicas, 4.761 personas se convirtieron en los candidatos preseleccionados en la etapa inicial. El desglose de los aspirantes por ciudades ha sido el respectivo: Madrid (1.000), Barcelona (960), Cádiz (403), Córdoba (400), Tenerife (400), Valencia (400), A Coruña (250), Bilbao (240), Gijón (200), Murcia (200), Mallorca (192), Logroño (78), Ibiza (38): Total (4.761)
